Breaking Out of your Lease Early
by: Tom Tessin

Leasing a car can be a pain in the butt sometimes when you really think about it. From keeping it under the proper mileage and keeping it in mint condition, it's really like renting a car for a long period of time. Sometimes things may come up where you don't want the car anymore and you want to get rid of the lease payments. Just when you think you're stuck with the car, it's not the case. Believe it or not, there are ways to break the lease and I'll explain.

Transfer your lease

Like selling a car, transferring a lease works in the same way. Let's say you own a car and wanted to get rid of it. What are you going to do? The correct answer would be sell it. This is no different when you working with a lease. When you're leasing, you'll either find a buyer yourself or you can have a service find someone for you.

The problem when it comes to transferring a lease is that it's hard to find a buyer sometimes and with leases, they usually run anywhere from one years and beyond. If you find yourself not able to transfer the lease within a few months, you'll probably end up keeping it. The last thing you want to do is pay a service and not transfer the lease too.

Terminate the lease

If you can't find anyone to take the lease over, you may have to resort to terminating the lease. The bad thing about this one is that you're going to have to pay certain fees. The fees vary from dealer to dealer. What you'll find with some dealers is that they won't allow people to terminate their lease early. Even if you're able to, you may find its just easier to keep the car for the length of the lease. If you really think of it, why should you pay all the termination fees and not have a car to drive?

Look for dealership deals

If you find that your lease is going to be done in a few months, you may find that if you bring it back to the same dealer, they may terminate your lease early if you possibly purchase a car or create a new lease. If the sole purpose of wanting to terminate your lease was because you wanted to buy a car, this would probably be a great opportunity. Your best bet in this case is to call the dealership itself and ask if this is possible.

As you can see, breaking out of a lease contract early is pretty tough and there's not that many solutions. Most of the times the best bet is to just duke it out and pay off your remaining lease payments. If you do this, you can learn from your mistakes and not make that mistake again. Then again, if you want to break out of your contract, you can try the above methods and see if they work

Really want to break out of your lease early? Consider the lease kit.
