Affordable Car Repair Tips without Insurance
by: FINDgascards.com
If you are in an accident and you don't have insurance to cover the damage then you are in trouble. Most people feel their only option is to ride around with body damage on their vehicle. However, that is not necessarily the case. There are many options to help you fix your car for a lower cost than a body shop would charge you. Consider these options and they just might help you out of your situation.
Do it Yourself
Even if you are not a car body repairman you can still do much of the work on your own. This is a shock to many people who think there is some major science to repairing cars. In reality, many times you can buy the piece you need at a salvage yard for half the price and just install it yourself. The Internet is chock full of "how-tos" that will literally walk you through the steps of repairing your car. You can join forums and talk to others who will give you advice, too. So, don't rule out repairing the vehicle if the damage is light and you are pretty good with your hands.
Buy Parts
Another option that will save you money is to simply buy the parts you need and then take them to a body shop. Doing this will reduce your cost because all you will need to pay for is the labor since you already have the parts purchased. Many times body shops will double the price of a part just to make more money. You will save by purchasing the parts yourself.
Shop Class
This may sound crazy, but many high schools have a garage on campus where kids learn about bodywork, engines, and the like. If you don't have extensive and major damage, or are on a super tight budget, you may consider letting the highschoolers work on your car as a project. You will get the labor for free and they will get some major experience!
Credit Card
Finally, you can always use your credit card to help pay for the bodywork. This is not going to get you out any cheaper in the long run, but in the short run it will allow you to get your car up and running again.
When you don't have insurance to cover your vehicle's bodywork then you don't have many options other than the ones outlined above. Of course, you can brainstorm other ideas and find some combination of the ideas described here that might work for you. The good thing is there are options for you. They may not be the options you would like to have, but nevertheless they are options.
