>> How Does a Gas Credit Card Work?

A gas credit card works just like any other credit card you have in your wallet.  The only difference is that you’re going to benefit more off of your gas purchases.  When you apply for your credit card, make sure you make note of how much you’re going to get back on your gas purchase and if there’s a limit on the rebates.  When I say limit, some credit cards will only limit you to get so much back per year.  I would generally stay away from these.

Keep in mind that when you apply for a gas card, you’ll notice that the first couple months will have an intro rate.  This rate won’t be locked in for the life of the card.  So make sure you look at how much you’re going to save once the card’s introductory rate is up.  It’s usually half of what it was when you got it.

When you make a purchase with your gas card at a gas station, you won’t see the savings right away.  Instead, depending on the car you’ll either have to wait until your monthly statement or some card may make you wait longer.  It will all depend on the card.  When you receive your statement in the mail, you’ll be able to see the savings you have built up over the month.  From there, you’ll either be able to apply this balance to your credit card statement or you can simply request a check from the bank itself.
